Hotels Near Marina City
The Marina City complex in Chicago was the first “mixed-use” property in the United States. When architect Bertrand Goldberg created his masterpiece in the 1960s, he sought to incorporate both commercial and residential components. This idea was revolutionary at the time as shops, restaurants, and hotels had never before been combined with living space. The centerpieces of Marina City are the eye-catching twin cylindrical towers, an apartment complex and parking garage that is so unique in design, it is often featured in city photographs and movies.
You’ll spot the towers in movies such as The Blues Brothers, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Captain Ron, I Robot, Stranger than Fiction, The Break-Up and Wanted. They also make an appearance in the opening credits of The Bob Newhart Show and the closing credits of Good Times. Two cars have famously been flung off the sides in movie stunts. The first was a 1980 Prix Pontiac and the second a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass.
