Downtown Chicago, IL Hotels for Halloween

Come get ghoulish with us here in the Windy City on a Halloweentime getaway to Hotel Chicago! Our amenity-rich River North hotel positions you auspiciously for taking in Halloween happenings in and around Chicago: from scream-out-of-your-socks haunted houses to more family-friendly fare.

Here are some ideas for things to do this spooky time of year!

Halloween Events in Chicago

Two fun, safe, and costumed-up events bookend the City of Chicago’s Halloweek festivities. The city and LUMA8 collaborate to put on the Upside Down Halloween Parade, Halloweek’s Grand Opening, on October 22nd in Washington Park, as well the Halloweek Grand Finale of the Arts in the Dark Halloween Parade along State Street on October 29th.

And those most certainly aren’t the only eye-popping processions marking the holiday: A nationally renowned Halloween parade takes place just a hop, skip, and a jump from Hotel Chicago on October 31st itself, when the Haunted Halloween Parade goes down in Northalsted.

Another amazing Halloween spectacle awaits at the Chicago Botanic Garden, which presents its Night of 1,000 Jack-o’-Lanterns October 12th through the 16th and again from October 19th and 23rd. More than 1,000 hand-carved pumpkins—real, honest-to-goodness pumpkins, mind you—dazzle the eye on this after-hours walkthrough.

From cruises on the river and Segway circuits to good old-fashioned walkabouts, you’ll find no shortage of Chicago ghost tours on offer this time of year. You can browse a good roundup of these eerily edifying experiences right here. Among them, it’s worth highlighting the Haunted History Tours offered in October at the Lincoln Park Zoo, which overlap with its popular Fall Fest.

We also highly recommend checking out the National Museum of Mexican Art’s annual Day of the Dead exhibition, the 36th annual iteration of which—Dia de Muertos, Memories & Offerings—kicks off with an opening reception on September 23rd. (It runs into December.)

Over at Navy Pier, meanwhile, young and old alike will appreciate the Pier Pumpkin Lights all October.

Haunted Houses

Chicagoland comes chockablock with haunted houses of varying degrees of freakiness, from Basement of the Dead and Hayride of Horror to Disturbia Haunted House and the Old Joliet Haunted Prison. You can explore a comprehensive listing of regional haunted attractions right here (if you dare, of course).
