We’re less than two months away from the 2018 edition of Lollapalooza, one of Chicago’s signature summer happenings and certainly one of the world’s best-known music festivals. Introducing “Lolla”
Lollapalooza came about back in 1991, when Perry Farrell organized it as a farewell tour for his alternative rock band Jane’s Addiction. “Lolla” continued as a touring festival through 1997, then revived in the 2000s; in 2005, it transitioned into a long weekend concert extravaganza in Grant Park and has been going strong ever since.
The main action is on the festival’s eight stages, which host the better part of 200 bands from all across musical genres. But there’s also the arts-and-crafts delights of the Lolla Market, fabulous local Windy City fare served up in Chow Town, the youngster-oriented mini-festival of Kidzapalooza, and other fun on tap.
The 2018 Lollapalooza Lineup
Some of the biggest names in music show up each and every year for the Lolla proceedings. The 2018 festival lineup comes loaded with heavy-hitting headliners: The Arctic Monkeys, Travis Scott, Khalid, and Galantis are among the performers on the opening night of Friday; Bruno Mars, the National, Post Malone, and Tyler, the Creator play on Friday; Saturday sees The Weeknd, St. Vincent, Logic, and Vampire Weekend among many other groups; and Jack White, ODESZA, Portugal. The Man, and Lil Uzi Vert help close things out on Sunday.
The Lollapalooza Aftershows
Lolla’s daily entertainment doesn’t end when the mainstage music winds down: Official Lollapalooza Aftershows take place at multiple venues, including Metro, House of Blues, and Logan Square.
