Fall Activities In and Around Chicago, IL

Fall in Chicago? Perfection! The weather’s just about perfect, the foliage is doing its razzle-dazzle thing, and the Windy City calendar’s absolutely stacked with good times.

What does this mean? It’s high time to start locking down your autumn getaway with us here at Hotel Chicago, ideally situated in the iconic Marina City complex of River North and giving our guests the best of the season on a platter.

Here are just a few ideas of things to do while enjoying our Marriott Bonvoy Autograph Collection hospitality in the heart of Chicago this fall!

Take in a Fall Festival

The waning of summer by no means implies a slowdown in Chicagoland festivities. Among other things, ‘tis the season for Oktoberfest, and the Windy City boasts multiple versions, from the famous Oktoberfest Chicago at St. Alphonsus (September 22 – 24) to the Chicago German-American Oktoberfest in Lincoln Square (September 8 – 10) and Lincoln Park Zoo’s Oktoberfest at the Zoo (September 16).

Speaking of that world-famous zoo, it’s also hosting Fall Fest for a full month: September 29th through October 29th, with a Harvest Maze, pumpkin patch, Fun Slide, and other family fun on tap.

We’re just scratching the surface here: There’s also the Lincoln Park Wine Fest (October 6 – 8) that happens to overlap with the Chicago Beer Fest (October 7) over at the Field Museum. And you won’t want to miss the fabulous Day of the Dead pageantry going down at the National Museum of Mexican Art’s Día de los Muertos: Love Never Dies Ball on November 4th!

Get in the Halloween Spirit

Fall means that spooky stretch of the calendar, of course, and Chicago happens to be a knockout place to mark Halloween. In this history-drenched city, you won’t be hurting for options on the ghost-tour front: Check out our Hotel Chicago blogpost from last year for some ideas.

Take in the Northalsted Halloween Parade on October 31st, party with the critters at Lincoln Park Zoo’s Spooky Zoo (October 21), or immerse yourself in a Halloween wonderland at the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Night of 1,000 Jack-o’-Lanterns (October 11 – 15 and October 18 – 22).

Revel in the Fall Colors

The American Midwest is a world-class place to soak up fall colors, and “leaf-peeping” is very much a possibility right in the city with a home base at Hotel Chicago: from Lincoln and Millennium parks to the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Or take a daytrip farther afield: to the Morton Arboretum, to the Anderson Japanese Gardens, or to any number of Cook County’s precious Forest Preserves.

Plan Your Fall Escape to Hotel Chicago

Fall’s very much knocking on the door, so don’t wait another day to lock down your Autograph Collection guest room or suite here at Hotel Chicago for some seasonal magic in the Windy City!
