Hotel for The Onion Comedy and Arts Festival

If you enjoy a good, hearty, side-splitting laugh now and again, you should really consider a visit to the Windy City this spring for the Onion Comedy & Arts Festival—with close-by Autograph Collection accommodations in River North at Hotel Chicago!

Put on by the long-running satirical newspaper The Onion (based in Chicago since 2012), the festival is bringing some of the biggest names in the funny business to a variety of great venues, and with a guest room or suite at our hotel you’ll be right in the middle of the action. Come join us for what promises to be a hilarious (and occasionally even illuminating) lineup of performances from May 30ththrough June 3rd!

Some Highlights of the Onion Comedy & Arts Festival

The five-day proceedings come stacked with high-profile shows and presentations. At 8 PM on the opening day of the festival, Tom Scharpling will moderate A Conversation With The Onion at Lincoln Hall, during which both current and former staff members at the beloved rag will talk about its 30-year history and behind-the-scenes operations. Beginning that Wednesday and running each night of the festival at the Annoyance Theatre (8 PM), Scott Thompson of the legendary Kids in the Hall will perform as one of his most iconic characters in Apres le Deluge: The Buddy Cole Monologues.

On Friday, June 1st, David Cross—of Mr. Show and Arrested Development fame—takes the stage at the Chicago Theatre at 8 PM, while the next evening at 9 PM at the UP Comedy Club, Cross’s regular comedy partner-in-arms Bob Odenkirk (also a familiar face from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) appears with various special guests as part of The Comedy Resistance. The same evening at 7 and 10 PM, Judge John Hodgman (accompanied by Bailiff Jesse Thorn) will deliver ridiculous justice live on stage at Thalia Hall.

A number of leading comedy podcasts will put on live presentations during the festival, among them How Did This Get Made?, an exploration of gloriously bad movies with Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas (Saturday and Sunday at 7 and 10 PM at the Athenaeum Theatre).

Other highlights of the Onion Comedy & Arts Festival include Jo Firestone (a writer for The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon and a cast member of HBO’s High Maintenance) at 7 PM on Saturday at The Hideout and Chris Gethard (star of Funny or Die’s The Chris Gethard Show, host of the Beautiful Stories From Anonymous People podcast, and part of Mike Birbiglia’s recent film Don’t Think Twice) at 7 and 9:30 PM on Sunday at the UP Comedy Club.
