Luxury Hotel near Holiday Events In Chicago

Join us at Hotel Chicago in River North this holiday season and experience the magic of the Windy City in this most festive time of year! From ice skating to Old World-style Christmas markets, here’s a mere sample of some of what you’ll be able to enjoy during your luxurious seasonal stay with us…

The Christkindlmarket Chicago

Now in its 23rd year, the Christkindlmarket Chicago in Daley Plaza ranks as the largest Christmas market in the entire country. This Windy City take on a traditional German holiday marketplace serves up oodles of handmade gifts, delicious strudel, pastries, and other bites, and warm Glühwein served in souvenir mugs: What more could you ask for? The Christkindlmarket Chicago runs from November 16th through Christmas Eve.

The Joffrey Ballet’s Nutcracker

The Joffrey Ballet’s production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, transports the magical tale to the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago. Come enjoy a Windy City-themed take on a Christmas ballet classic between December 1st and 30th!

ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo

As it’s done for more than two decades now, Lincoln Park Zoo will deck itself out for the holidays in some 2.5 million lights: a bestiary spectacle to remember! ZooLights—which opens November 16th and lasts until January 6th—is more than just an installation, though: It also comes marked by plenty of special events and activities, including photo ops with Santa Claus, carolers wandering the grounds, a Holiday Market (Tuesday, November 27th), and some live festive jazz courtesy of The Chris White Trio Tribute to A Charlie Brown Christmas (Sunday, December 9th).

Illumination: Tree Lights at The Morton Arboretum

Another holiday light fantasia, Illumination turns the diverse canopies of the Morton Arboretum into a yuletide dream. Stroll the one-mile path amid trees glowing and spangled with shifting colors and effects while enjoying holiday tunes and a bonfire just asking to be huddled up beside with a warming beverage.

Ice Skating at Millennium Park

Among Chicago’s beloved winter fixtures, the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink—which opens for the season on November 16th and operates, weather permitting, into March—gives you the opportunity to skate against the backdrop of one of the country’s iconic city parks. Never skated before, or decidedly rusty? The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events will again be offering free skating lessons on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays an hour before the rink opens. (The hours are noon to 8 PM Monday through Thursday, noon to 10 PM on Friday, and 10 AM to 9 PM on Saturday and Sunday.)
